Art Journaling on the Edge

Want to be inspired to try a new way of journaling? Ready to jazz up the black and white pen and paper? Perhaps you’d like to branch out and try some creative new photography techniques. Enter Wide Open: Inspiration and Techniques for Art Journaling on the Edge by Randi Feuerhelm-Watts.

I’m a sucker for a great boxed set, and this creativity kit is no different. The deck of art cards is loaded with inspirational images and innovative journaling techniques. Each card offers a prompt you can answer with words, photography, mixed media, paint, or all of the above.

The kit also includes a journal for you to get started in. The pages are heavily textured, painted and covered with scraps of images for you to encorporate into your entry. Some have writing prompts built in. My favorite asks, “How long will you continue to put tinsel on that dead Christmas tree?”

If you’re looking to shake up your traditional pen and paper process, this art journaling kit could be just the trick. Here are some photos I took of the boxed set. Click them for a full size version.

  1. Very nice. I always like looking at people’s art journals.

  2. This makes me want to work on an art journal I started a few years ago. I’m always waiting for the “perfect thing” to write about to go with the art, but I don’t think it’s really necessary. The art can be the journal entry!
